The Smokey Row Story

The Original Smokey Row Coffee House &
Soda Fountain in Pleasantville is one of the oldest buildings left in town. Although it has been the victim of several fires, through restoration the historic brick walls, tin ceilings, and wood floors have been returned
to their original appearance.

Disastrous fires have burned out buildings on Monroe Street in Pleasantville many times since the late 1800's. In the early 1900's, after suffering numerous fires, the local residents nicknamed this row of buildings Smokey Row.
Even recently in the 80's and 90's the south
side of Monroe Street has been devastated by fire. Smokey Row stores have been designed
to have the same nostalgic appeal as the original stores that occupied them. The brick walls, wood floors, & high ceilings are reminiscent of the days of Paardekoopers Drug Store, the Frankel Clothing Store, and
Kresge's five and dime stores.

We hope that once again Smokey Row will fill the hearts and minds of the people who
visit us and we will take our place
among the ranks of the fine stores
that have come before us. Smokey Row Pleasantville
